I was hired by Capital Records last week to shoot behind the scenes and promotional shots of the band Saving Abel during a video shoot they were doing aboard the famous USS Hornet, an aircraft carrier docked at the Alameda Naval Air Base.
It was an amazing amount of fun, watching the video making process, and as usual somewhat stressful trying to pull off a set-up band portrait with only about 15 minutes to work with. But pull it off I did, in fact I pulled off two!
The guys in the band were very cool and fun to work with. The main shot was a scene of the band all set up with gear, performing the song on the deck of the carrier while the sun set behind them. This was a rare day in SF, with hot and sunny Summertime weather which made for beautiful late afternoon light.
