JD McPherson for The East Nashvillian

When I first moved to Nashville over a year ago, I picked up a copy of the East Nashvillian magazine at a local coffee shop.  It was filled with great articles on local musicians, artists, and shop owners.  But the first thing I noticed, was the photography and design!  Both were excellent!  So I set out to get an assignment from them.   To my delight, my very first one was a cover/feature on local rocker JD McPherson (who I’m a big fan of).  The editor, Chuck, had a idea for the double page spread.  A 1950’s inspired atomic bomb testing kinda thing, which I totally dug.  He had even found a great location, the old Congress Inn, a Civil War era dive hotel with a great pool that had been filled in with dirt many years ago.  After a bit of negotiation with the owners (and $300 cash) they agree to let us shoot there, and as you can see, all went very well.  We were able to pull it off with really no problems to speak of.

It was quite a pleasure working with Chuck, and the crew of talent that made this all possible.

Jonathan Greiner: Artist, Box Guitar Builder, Musician

Recently spent an afternoon with the totally cool, John Greiner, who schooled me on the history of hand made guitars, while hand crafting part of his own.  Quite a pleasure watching him work, as he’s one of the few builders in the area that works exclusively by hand with no power tools.  Check him out on Facebook
